How Video Game Soundtracks Can Help You Be Productive At Work

We have a pro tip that is going to change your work life. When you need to focus, try listening to video game soundtracks.
You might be thinking, what kind of joke is this? But hear us out. We have science and research to back us up. So, keep reading and find out why you should be listening to video game soundtracks to keep your productivity up.
There have been plenty of studies showing the effects of music on concentration levels and focus. Having a constant sound around you gives your brain something to tune out and keep you focused.
This way, you don't have to listen to the co-worker obnoxiously laughing in the next cubicle or a few colleagues chatting away in the corner. Having a constant source of sound instead of intermittent interruptions will make you focus better.
Music is also known to release endorphins. Endorphins are those little molecules that make you feel good and happy. When you feel good, you naturally tend to work better. Music is also known to release dopamine from your brain, making doing repetitive tasks easier.
Listening to music will also keep you energized and motivated. Ever noticed you work out a little better with hip hop or fast-paced music playing in the gym? This simple example shows the impact of music on your tasks.
These are all very true and effective. But what is so special about video game music? Why is it gaining popularity as a means to keep you focused?

The Soundtrack Design

Video game soundtracks, by default, are designed in a way not to distract or overwhelm the player. It is just right to keep you engaged and not distracted from the game objectives. The slight variations create a sense of achievement in the player.

Video game soundtracks have a similar effect on people at the workplace too. It allows you to keep working at a specific pace, all the while not distracting you from the task at hand.

Absence of Lyrics

The human brain is an incredible thing. Our brains are always compelling us to seek out human interaction. When a person is talking nearby, it is quite natural for you to want to turn to that person. It is because your brain is literally telling you to do so. On the other hand, human speech and conversations are incredibly distracting.
Video game music generally does not tend to have lyrics. They are mostly instrumental music with no human voices or language. Even if there is a voice, they are oohs and aahs and such. Your brain doesn't perceive this as language. This lack of lyrics contributes highly to the focusing aid of video game soundtracks.

The Pace

Video game music is always engaging and exciting. Imagine playing hour-long video games with melodious classical music in the background? You would probably fall asleep.

Unfortunately, this is precisely what will happen if you try to work with sweet melodic music.
But you can't focus appropriately with extremely fast-paced music that makes you feel like your heart might jump off either. Most video game soundtracks hit that perfect sweet spot required to keep you engaged but not too agitated.

Constant, Low Volume Music

A background noise that will help you concentrate shouldn't have vigorous jumps intones. Instead, you require no-nonsense, no surprise, constant music. But the track shouldn't be too monotonous so that it gets boring. Video game soundtracks are a perfect constant, low volume music to keep you engaged for long hours without getting tedious.
